Research Presentation—Black Women’s Activism Against Racism, Sexism Homophobia and other intersectional issues

NOTE: You will also find this description on the syllabus.

Please select one of the following names below. Create a PowerPoint presentation on the anti-racism/anti-sexism/anti-homophobia activism of a contemporary Black woman. In other words, you will explore the ways in which this person’s activism (through political leadership, writing, artistic expression, etc ) addresses race, gender and other interconnected aspects of Black women’s lives. Your presentation should be 10-12 slides and include the following:

1. Introductory slide with course number, your name and the topic of your presentation (5 points)
2. Biographical information and images on the subject of your research (10 points)
3. Discussion of the subject’s work/activism (20 points)
4. Analysis of the ways in which this woman’s activism, writing or art reflects a Black feminist perspective. (30 points). In this class we have studied Black feminism and intersectionality. Your analysis is a discussion of the ways that gender, race, sexuality or other social factors come together or are clearly visible in this woman’s work. How does the activist describe the goals of her work? How do the products of her work illustrate the intersection of gender, race, sexuality or other social factors? This is an important component of your project. Please give this section your close attention.
5. How has this woman’s work contributed to social change in the U.S? (15 points)
6. Chicago Manual of Style in-text citation of at least 3 references in your presentation slides. (10 points)
7. Correct bibliographic style of these references on the last slide. (10 points)
