Description
This is a class discussion and this is 2 different student statements just respond to their statement based on your opinions and facts,&, etc..ITS 75 WORDS EACH RESPONSE.
1)I mostly get my news from sources that I feel are credible such as my daily news local and worldwide on television or from a close trustworthy source that I know would have facts to show. Also there are times where I have updates on my phone that I get alerts for any breaking news. I mainly like to wait until I have heard a confirmation on any news that could be possibly be questionable. When analyzing the news I receive, I instantly think of how does the news impact my life. My view on social outlets is 50/50. Some social outlets in my opinion will share false information mainly in this era for ways of attention just to be noticed and for many unknown other reasons. Then there are the social outlets that are for sharing positive news and getting the actual correct information out to help others stay aware and in the know.
I’d say being aware of what’s going on in the governmental process can help one become more involved in what goes on today around our world. Getting out to vote, making your voice be heard in a peaceful and positive manner, and helping others in our communities are ways to be more involved.
A fallacy that I have seen more of over the years are with mainly phone companies. Most phones companies such as T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost, Verizon, etc. will advertise their service with deals on phones and persuade consumers to buy in more of the devices all at once. A certain device can be $500.00 at one place and $275.00 elsewhere if you sign up with a particular service provider. Most companies are able to profit high dollar on a device that has new updates and better features just to roll out with the same device more newer looking the following year. Most times when they say you will pay only a certain amount per month, this excludes taxes and other fees that are owed as everyone has to pay someone. Knowing what you are buying and how it will affect you financially in the future will be helpful when deciding on what phone device you get and if its within your means.
My favorite learning activity would be the videos which summarizes what we learned and refreshes the main core concepts in detail of what we have read.
2)I try to use sources that are very commonly known as being credible, like apple news or by watching the actual news on tv. Typically, when I hear news on media outlets, I’ll look it up to find better sources in order to find the credibility of what I read.
As a citizen, really anyone can get involved in the governmental process. The biggest thing with this is making sure to educate yourself on the issues being covered. Spreading true facts and knowing what your side stands for is very important.
One fallacy that comes to mind that is commonly used by advertisements is when they claim a product is recommended by dentists or doctors. In this situation, Im sure there are doctors that would vouch for the product, but saying that all recommend a certain product is just not true. But it does give products more credibility so it is a common fallacy used to get people to buy their products.
The most interesting part of the class to me was learning about arguments. I like how it highlights that arguments don’t have to stem from anger or bad feelings, but they can be a great way to debate and persuade others. It allows people to try and back up the claim they make with facts and allows for more civilized discussions between people when done correctly.
