Description
Designing a Renewable Energy Portfolio for USD
undefined
Task 2
undefined
Part 1
undefined
Determine USDs current energy requirements, sources, and costs.
undefined
- What is USDs total annual energy needs?
- You may report an average, a maximum, or a recent fiscal year.
- Make your thought process explicit and justify whatever you decide.
- If no energy-saving measures are implemented, is this value likely to go up or down in future years? Why?
- What is USDs total annual cost for its energy over the period chosen above?
- How much energy needs to be produced annually by your teams renewable energy portfolio? For our purposes, the existing solar panels will remain in place.
- What are the peak power requirements? How might these peaks affect your designs?
undefined
All information is available in the campus electricity sources.xlsx spreadsheet.
undefined
Part 2
undefined
Design a renewable energy portfolio that will replace the energy USD currently gets from non-renewable sources. Again, for our purposes, the existing solar panels will remain in place. Therefore, the proposed renewable energy portfolio must replace the energy USD currently gets from local utility companies and from the natural gas fuel cells.
undefined
Your group must:
undefined
- Choose the renewable energy source(s); technical specifications must be provided
- Propose installation locations on campus
- Estimate initial and long-term costs of the proposed renewable energy portfolio
- Compare costs with current electricity sources
- Describe any environmental impacts (during manufacture and also local effects after installation)
- Justify the appropriateness and feasibility of the portfolio

Deliverable

Technical report draft with the Proposed Renewable Energy Plan section completed. Use tables and figures as appropriate. Be sure to properly cite all sources.
