This discussion goes with “Go Carolina” by David Sedaris, p. 62-69 in our textbook.

David Sedaris is a prominent nonfiction writer, known for his use of humor and sarcasm. Nonfiction means writing about real life. He often writes about his own life and experiences in a self-deprecating way, in which he pokes fun at himself. This essay is from his book Me Talk Pretty One Day, published in 2000. Sedaris was born in 1956, which gives you some context for his elementary school experience described in “Go Carolina.”

As you read, pay special attention to how Sedaris uses details to create scenes that you can visualize. We will analyze his strategies for the Writer’s Corner assignment this week.
