Description
ENG 102 Composition II Unit Four Recognizing and Using Visuals as Arguments
Having read Chapter 12 in The Purposeful Argument, you will choose a website that presents a visual argument using videos, still photos, or a slideshow for analysis. You can choose from the suggested websites listed on page 300: Your Turn 12a, “Practice: Read Visual Arguments”, though these might have changed considerably or be unavailable since our text was published. They might also provide you with leads for searching out your own websites to analyze.
Use the 6 Questions to Ask While Reading Visual Arguments (p.300) as a structural framework for your essay. The simplest way to do this is to write a full paragraph responding to each question, but weave them into a coherent essay using transitions.
*Do not number your answers or write 6 separate unconnected answers to the questions. Remember that you are writing a single 2-3 page essay.
*Do not write the questions themselves in your essay, but capture the main idea of each paragraph with a topic sentence drawn from the question.
*At the end of your 6-part analysis, write a concluding section (at least one full paragraph with your overall assessment of the visual argument you’ve analyzed.
*No additional research is permitted for this project. Just the website you’ve chosen and your own thinking and writing. Papers which use or copy from unacknowledged sources (i.e. have plagiarized passages) will receive no credit).
*At the end of your paper, list the website in an MLA-formatted Work Cited, including a live hyperlink so that I can access the website with one click.
*For the Works Cited listing for your website, consult Appendix A: MLA Documentation Guide (p. 622 in or textbook) or https://owl.purdue.edu/ (Links to an external site.)
*Use your best writing skills in this (and every) project. Be sure to proofread your paper with care before submitting it.
