In 2005, Sam Odom and t he research division of the Council for Exceptional Children published a seminal work, Research in special education: Scientific methods and evidence-based practices (Odom, Brantlinger, Gersten, Horner, Thompson, & Harris, 2005). Odom et al. (2005) examined different types of research methodology and drew guidelines (quality indicators) for evidence-based practice within the field of special education. After reading the seminal article and Graham (2005) introduction found in the Learn section of Module 1: Week 1, the initial thread should:
- Provide a summary that includes the key points represented in the weekly readings of Graham (2005) and Odom et al. (2005)
- Include two concepts the candidate application of reading or thought were important as well as added to your knowledge from the readings
- Provide two questions to facilitate discussion with your peers

Following Sam Odom and the research division of the Council for Exceptional Children publication of the seminal work, Research in special education: Scientific methods and evidence-based practices (Odom, Brantlinger, Gersten, Horner, Thompson, & Harris, 2005) research reviews began to appear using Odom et al. (2005) quality indicators to determine evidence-based practice. As a result, in 2008 and 2009 two special issues were published within the journals of Exceptional Children and Intervention in School in Clinic to explore the topic of evidence-based practice. Using this module reading, the initial thread should:
- Provide an intergraded summary that includes the key points represented in this weeks module reading
Include two concepts the candidate application of reading or thought were important as well as added to your knowledge from the readings
Provide two questions to facilitate discussion with your peers

Evidence-based practice and data-based decision making are important terms used with-in the field of assessment and research in special education. At the base of authentic assessment lies Truth. Zechariah 8:16 states, These are the things which you should do: speak the truth to one another; judge with truth and judgment for peace in your gates. What do the words Truth and Judgement mean in terms of evaluation, evidence-based practice and data-based decision making in the field of special education? Be sure to include two questions to facilitate discussion with your peers.
