Should corporations be more concerned about the data and physical security of their customers, especially when it pertains to the use of IoT and Smart Devices?
Once you complete your discussion thread, please post your initial entry to the discussion board. You should then respond to the work of 2 classmates to fulfill your participation requirement. For this response, you must also use cited materials from a scholarly source to validate your logic in the response. Don’t just make up a response that is “I agree so and so” for half of the passage. This has to be a substantive, constructive write-up.

With the change in technology, use of smart devices has been embraced for the organization to keep up with the ever dynamic change in technology. Internet of things, IOT, explains the network of tangible objects that are embedded with sensors, software and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging information with other devices. Much as there is a wholesome benefit in this development, there equally are challenges to this change in technology. One of the biggest challenges is security. When it comes to physical security of the customers, organizations should be aggressive in ensuring they safeguard this. Physical security are measures taken to deny unauthorized access to facilities, equipment and resources. This prevents damage or any harm.
The most paramount advantage of physical security is that any unauthorized access has to bypass many hindrances before achieving their goal hence making this process difficult and almost impossible to execute. If an unauthorized access is achieved to a clients data or their physique, the perpetrator can achieve their goal which could be, harming the client physically, torturing them mentally, harming them emotionally, humiliating them, to satisfy their personal gains, exploiting money from them, among other things.
If any of the access, be it the clients physical address or data are accessed through the bridging of the organization, this could reflect a negative image on the organization and to prevent this, the organization can prevent the situation by ensuring they prioritize on the physical security of the clients data and physical location. The IOT and smart devices should have an end to end encryption to protect the individuals data from having unauthorized access (PARODI, 2013). This will ensure protection of the consumers data and physical location without compromising the course. Safety and security is a key factor to success as with trust and safety, doubts are scaled to zero ensuring a smooth running of any operation.

The Internet of Things (IoT) and smart devices created a revolution world-wide connecting almost all environment devices over the Internet sharing their information to build innovative applications and services for improving quality of human kind. Though they provide ultimate benefits, poses many privacy and security challenges to the organizations. To manage these issues firms must make sure privacy and security for IoT services and products must be on priority. In addition to this, organizations should consider the physical safety of IoT and smart devices of their customers to prevent the devices and IoT system from causing an unacceptable physical damage or threat and at the same time must contemplate ethical use and social behavior of IoT technologies to ensure effective safety and security (Atlam & Wills, 2019).
Many IoT experts and researchers strongly believe that securing the IoT system from data risk and physical damage is one of the serious challenges that hinder the way of successful implementation of IoT system environment. As the nature of IoT system is dynamic, any poorly secured device can be vulnerable to the whole system and resilience of the complete system becomes challenge. The access of IoT devices and ease of connection over internet open doors for serious security threat especially with the wide spread distribution of distinct devices and their ability to connect to other devices without proper authorization process or even acknowledge device owners and possibility of ?ooding these devices with serious security risk. Managing security risks in the IoT context must be on priority to enhance ultimate IoT system. Companies involving in IoT and smart devices must put security measures in place, to ensure data security of their customers. The best industry security practices are hardware tamper resistant, strong authentication, timely updates, device identity spoofing and dynamic testing (Atlam & Wills, 2019).
